At the end of last week I tested positive for covid, as a freelance stylist who works incredibly closely with clients and other freelancers, I had no moral option other than to remain at home, (unpaid) meh!
So I decided to turn my attention to my other income streams and spend a bit of time batch cooking some content for my substack for the coming weeks.
On one of my long walks around Bushy Park, I had the idea of a regular feature People, Places, Things where I could share . . .
Interesting people who’s creative offerings I appreciate/admire or find joyful to follow on Instagram/Substack - Writers, Artists, Photographers, Musicians, Cooks, etc.
Places I have seen or been and loved, not always recently but historically too, that hold great memories and are deserving of a mention.
And things that I have discovered or own that are special, unique, useful or have a story attached.
I hope you like the concept, I’ll post one of these once a month and I’ve decided to make this a free feature that everyone can access.
PEOPLE
I was passing through Waterloo station last week when my gaze was drawn to a photography exhibition Landmark Photographer of the Year.
This image stopped me in my tracks, how beautiful?! It’s called Transient Beauty and is from a collection of photographs with the same name, depicting The fleeting beauty of the morning dew upon a clump of feathers by a Scottish loch, by Photographer Chris Grieve.
You can view the entire Transient Beauty gallery here.
I’m also mesmerised by Chris’s Variations on the theme of the sea what a talent!
Chris’s photographs are available as unframed, limited edition prints using archival quality inks on fine art papers. Click here for more info.
PLACES
Around this time last year we were on holiday in San Francisco celebrating P’s birthday so it’s been on my mind lately. I never did get around to writing up that trip, but one of the stand out places that we visited was Muir Woods. We didn’t have a car but you can take a coach out of the city to get there and it’s well worth the journey.
It was such a magical morning walking along the sun light dappled forest floor, a memory I will always cherish!
THINGS
Years ago, in a previous role in skincare, I met the Founders of Mauli Rituals, an exquisite, Ayurvedic beauty brand. I was so moved by their stories, passion and kindness that after the training I felt compelled to contact them. They sent me this mauli bracelet with 3 bells, symbols to value the past, honour the present and have faith for the future. It’s hung on the curtain knob of our bedroom window ever since and gently chimes when my hand brushes against it at the beginning and end of each day. Some days I fail to notice it, as you so often do with things that become too familiar, but slowing down this week I paid attention and it made me smile. The years have faded the colours of the threads but the message remains as poignant as ever.
value the past, honour the present and have faith for the future
What a wonderful refreshing read, looking forward to more of these ✨
Thank you so much for your appreciative words about my photography, particularly Transient Beauty and Variations on the Theme of Sea. 🙏🙏
