Every other Sunday I’ll bring you a short but sweet, pick and mix, of things worth sharing from the fortnight gone by, delivered to your inbox ready for a lazy, morning scroll while you’re still in your PJ’s. It’s free to read.
Sunday 12th January, 2025
Good Morning,
PJ Post returns after Christmas holiday hiatus and will be scaling back to being a fortnightly feature instead of weekly (which in reality was proving to be a bit of a stretch)
Here’s a selection of noteworthy bits and pieces to share from over the holidays and my first week back in the salon. . .
I watched The Substance, categorised as body-horror (jeez) it’s a smart film about vanity, aging and the seemingly obsessive quest for eternal youth in today’s culture. I thought it was brilliant!
Also Bird a coming of age tale of family, friendship and belonging (some lovely cinematic nature shots included) unpredictable, a little strange at times but overall I enjoyed this too.
I melted at The Marquee Moon’s New Year’s Day bash, a resto, cocktail and hi-fi bar in Stokey, the place was packed, standing room only and I had stupidly taken a massive puffa jacket - error! No cloakroom so next time I’ll stick to my Geordie roots and leave the outerwear at home. Cumbersome coat issues aside, (I’m sure it’s not always that busy in there surely?!) I’d def go back, good tunes, good vibes, friendly crowd!
I’ve been enjoying reading Messy a Substack by
and dipping in and out of The Poetry Pharmacy collection that I received as a Christmas gift.Getting more sleep is something I am trying to prioritise at the moment, a self confessed night owl but also an early riser, I have no issues falling to sleep, I just don’t allow myself enough hours under the duvet! My January schedule is allowing for a fair share of half days and early finishes so I’ve been treating myself to the odd afternoon nap to catch up on some zzz’s. I find napping with background murmur particularly comforting. Sports commentary, especially horse racing, takes me back to childhood naps at Granny & Grandad’s house while David Attenborough’s documentary dialogue has been a solid choice over the years to nurse me through hangover lie in’s. This week I randomly came across The Sleeping Forecast on BBC Sounds - A soothing blend of classical and ambient music from BBC Introducing artists interspersed with excerpts of the iconic Shipping Forecast from Radio 4, turned down low it’s a rather lovely soundtrack to snooze to!
Window shopping wise I’ve been eyeing up these crew neck jumpers at Uniqlo, such great Winter wardrobe staples and the perfect palette of neutrals that make me spoilt for choice on shade selection, plus I discovered ‘new to me’ jewellery brand Wild Fawn, who’s all female team, design and hand make sustainable pieces in London using recycled and traceable metal. Given the cost of gold these days, their prices are very reasonable. I spied a solid gold necklace that I hope to add to my collection soon. (I’ve lost count of the number of plated pendants that I have had to throw away because of tarnishing turning them tatty!) imagine the absolute joy of being able to wear something around your neck daily without the worry of it ever discolouring?! I do also love Hey Harper to solve this problem but if you can stretch to real gold, even better!
Sticking fingers into skincare pots is a no-go as a Facialist and naturally these habits carry over into personal product use too. I LOVE Tatcha’s The Kissu Lip Mask, I use it in my facials and I think it’s seriously the best hydrating lip product around, but the pot and teeny spatula combo wasn’t very handbag friendly until now. The genius new design has a little space on the top of the lid where the spatula clicks back into place so it’s now super easy to keep your petite pot of peach jelly clean and uncontaminated on the go. It’s super thick so the only caveat for day time use is to apply the tiniest slick (and beware of your hair sticking if it’s windy)
Thanks for reading, I hope you discovered something new
