Every other Sunday I’ll bring you a short but sweet, pick and mix, of things worth sharing from the fortnight gone by, delivered to your inbox ready for a lazy, morning scroll while you’re still in your PJ’s. It’s free to read.
Sunday 26th January
Good morning Sunday folk.
I’m back with my round up of likes and links from the last fortnight but first let’s begin with a duvet day dream.
This weekend, I wish I was waking at The Sun Inn, Bedford. This picture perfect, 17th Century, thatched pub resides in the small village of Felmersham on the Great River Ouse. Explore the local nature reserve at Felmersham Gravel Pits and navigate the maze of footpaths that sprawl across this beautiful Parish. If dining, choose from the Farmer’s or Green Grocer’s Table tasting menu’s or on Sunday’s a traditional roast. Afterwards retire to either Dusk or Dawn, renovated suites on the upper floors of the pub.
On the subject of sleep, I was discussing bedding in the chair with K and my infatuation with Panda London pillows - I have the original memory foam bamboo one and their bamboo mattress topper and highly recommend both! Risk free with a 30-night trial included. P and I are currently debating whether to make the switch to 2 single duvets on a double bed (something we tested previously in Hotels in Denmark and Iceland) I’m a big fan of this idea, especially since I’m always so hot! If we go ahead then I have my eye on the Panda cloud duvet too!
There really is no excuse to avoid sunscreen due to texture when modern day formulations like this one exist. Tatcher The Silk Sunscreen SPF (50) is exquisitely light and provides UVA, UVB and blue light protection as well as helping to reduce redness and acting as a perfect primer for make-up! It’s not cheap but nor is botox and in my opinion, prevention is a worthy investment.
If like me, your collection of charging cables is growing steadily and cluttering up your home, you might like the Stackers cable tidy. Functional and beautiful. No more tangled wires and available in a selection of tasteful, muted shades. (Spotted locally on the shelves in Mojo Twickenham)
Last weekend we took a very brief overnight trip to Liverpool for a gig at The Cavern Club which was so fun! I didn’t quite gather enough for an entire travel post so I thought I’d share a few highlights here. We stayed at Titanic on Stanley Dock, a VAST hotel in a converted rum warehouse (complete with wellness sanctuary in the basement). The place is gigantic with super spacious rooms and floor to ceiling windows and sits opposite an even bigger building, Tobacco Warehouse (the world’s largest brick warehouse!) One end has been partially converted into enormous luxury apartments and the other end still remains derelict (and a little spooky looking!) We didn’t get to see too much of the city but I can recommend Berry & Rye for well mixed drinks in an authentic, secret, drinking den. I really liked this place, there’s no sign outside just a blacked out shop front with closed blinds. You have to knock on the door and then wait to be admitted but it doesn’t feel in the least bit gimmicky or dated. Once inside, you’re transported to an Americana style prohibition era, again gorgeously authentic interiors, cosy booths and a beautiful wooden bar. This is the kind of place you could come early in the eve and find yourself rolling home many hours (and many cocktails!) later. The next morning we hit up Bold St Coffee ( The Plaza business district branch) famed for their breakfast menu of ‘buoys’, butty’s and brunch, it did not disappoint and set us up nicely for the long drive home.
Rarely a watcher of television, I took a chance on BBC Drama An T-Eilean / The Island and was mesmerised by the beautiful scenery of Scottish islands Lewis and Harris. Worth a watch for the armchair travel alone, but the first episode held my attention enough to lure me in to the murder mystery storyline too.
Thanks for reading, I hope you discovered something new
