SUNDAY 4th MAY, 2025
Happy day of rest. Hope you are in the midst of a lovely, lazy, long weekend!
This weekend, I wish I was waking . . .
At: The Maltings, Weybourne, Norfolk
With a selection of rooms to choose from, spread across the main house, stables and cottages, The Maltings is a perfect base for exploring the North Norfolk coast and countryside. On site, The Grain Store is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner or grazing. Afternoon Tea is served between 12pm and 4pm daily. You can also visit The Bottle Shop complete with enomatic wine tasting machine that allows you to try their recommendations at leisure. You can purchase a pre-loaded enomatic card at reception or at the bar during your visit – or add the experience to your stay.
In: the Hoxton sun print, wide leg PJ’s from Fable & Eve
How could you fail to wake up feeling sunny in these?!
Good things of note from the last fortnight . . .
Applying . . .Dr Lipp Nipple Balm. It’s the thing I always revert back to for dry lips when nothing else will cut it plus I love using a tiny slick of it over a lip entirely coloured in with Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Liner in Pillow Talk (CT in my opinion is so overrated but this lip pencil is an absolute holy grail! - The colour is perfection!) These last few weeks I’ve been applying the nipple balm around my nose as a hay fever hack experiment and I swear it catches pollen before it has a chance to whoosh up the nasal passage and cause irritation!
Visiting . . .
Leigh-On-Sea. I’ve never ventured to this stretch of coastline before now so it was a whole new world when I headed out there with a friend on a micro adventure earlier this week. Super easy to reach by train from London, lucked out with the weather and managed to squeeze in .. a little mooch along the Broadway, iced coffee’s at North, a wander along the sea front, lunch in a shady marquee on the beach at Osborne’s Seafood (Recommend the delicious Devonshire Crab Toastie!) and half an hour on the sandy beach by the twinkling sea. Honestly, I totally recommend hopping on a train and leaving the city for an afternoon and a change of scenery like this, it’s so good for the soul!
Wellington Farm Shop in Hampshire, (just along the road from Heckfield Place) a lovely stop for breakfast on their sunny terrace, you can pick up some tasty treats to take home and say hello to their resident highland cow Gladys!
Greys Court in Henley on Thames. A beautiful, National Trust, Tudor home and Estate where we spent the afternoon having a nosy around the property, being mesmerised by the blooming wisteria, cooing over baby lambs, admiring the bluebells on a woodland walk and generally just feeling like we were on a film set.
Reading . . . I’ve got 2 books on the go at the moment and have been enjoying a break from my Kindle and revisiting hard back. Laying on my bed in the gorgeous light of a sunshine dappled afternoon is when my reading time stacks up most. Current selection is Table For One by
and The Safe Keep by Yael Van Der Wouden.Listening to . . . Don West - for laid back, Summery soul vibes.

.Sunscreen is a topic I could debate for hours! I’m not a Scientist, Dr. or Derm but I have listened to many speak at length about SPF over the years and my own personal choices are made based on a combination of what I have learned from them, plus I fall into the category of being very fair, suffering with pigmentation and having a family history of skin cancer. (as well as having been previously treated for breast cancer myself, following which, my skin has felt even more susceptible to sunburn post chemo, even now, years down the line.) There is a LOT to consider and weigh up when choosing an SPF, far more than the average consumer even realises. As with many things, I think it comes down to arming yourself with as much knowledge as possible to help make an informed decision. I think this is a great piece of journalism from Kathleen!
And I’m definitely remembering this hack from
if I need to take a minute from behind the chair when the temperature rises in the salon this Summer! Thanks for being here, I hope you found something of value.
