Sunday 29th June
Good Morning! It’s looking set to be another hot one! I’m very much over it already and counting down the weeks until Autumn, ha!
This weekend, I wish I was waking . .
At: The Dundonald, Dunfermline
A guesthouse (comprising of 2 king suites) and a cottage (sleeps 4 in two king size rooms) in the historic village of Culross, Scotland. With sweeping views from stylish rooms, and views overlooking the Firth of Forth, a fully stocked in-room honesty bar and generous breakfast hampers delivered each morning. Very soon they will also be opening The Mercat - cafe, homeware, goods & provisions store with a special menu in collaboration with Jess Elliott Dennison. (I previously mentioned her last cookbook Midweek Recipes is a goodie, the follow up Weekend Recipes is about to launch soon!)
In: Maribel Pyjama’s by Wild Lovers
(how cute is the print?! Little diddy cowboy boots tied up with a bow)
Whispers from the chair . .
K just finished reading (and rated) The Whale Bone Theatre and R recommended Butter.
V told me there’s plans for the owners of Cafe Benedict to take over the little cafe in Radnor Gardens in Strawberry Hill very soon.
Everyone’s been loving the Maria Nila mini’s in salon. Such a great, low commitment way to test out something new and super convenient for travelling if you’re heading away on holiday anytime soon!
Good things of note from the last fortnight . .
Guys, this chargeable neck cooler gadget from John Lewis is hands down the BEST £15 I have EVER spent! A saviour on trains and tubes and a total dream when I need an extra bit of breeze, when the air con isn’t quite enough, during blowdry’s on scorching salon days! On the plus side it’s very lightweight and the charge lasts a good amount of time. On the negative side, it can sometimes dry my eyes out a little bit but that’s easily remedied by manoeuvring it sideways and then you get some air flow on the back of your neck too which is glorious. I’m pretty sure I have single handedly increased sales in the last week with the number of people I’ve directed to their website! (Really must get affiliate links set up!)
I discovered Callie Coles Instagram and it’s the most wholesome escapism that cannot fail to raise a smile, I am obsessed! Life at Woodley looks like a dream! If you want to go down a rabbit hole of Enid Blyton esque childhood adventures, house ponies (!) chickens and lambs in the kitchen, a pack of hounds, beach walks, meadow camping and a whole lot more whimsical magic then do take a look. The family also own saddlery brand Iggywick, creating adorable hand woven basket saddles for tiny tots and sheepskin saddles for children.
I’d been eyeing up this gorgeous, dinky, pink Roberts radio for a while and decided to treat myself. I’m anything but a spontaneous shopper, everything I do buy is a very considered purchase as we live in a teeny tiny space, so it has to be either functional or beautiful to make the cut (ideally both) which this most definitely is. Mornings now begin with coffee and Smooth Chill a simple but joyful start to the day!
I picked up this lovely book on Clouds, A Guide For The Curious by Susan E.Clark after finding myself back at The Factory Kitchen Cafe (my happy place in my hometown) for brunch again, for the second time in a fortnight, what a treat!! I can spend hours here, in the company of others or a solo date, having something lovely to eat, a wander around the gallery, a mooch around the shop, popping my head into the bookstore. The cafe is at the top of the building with a roof terrace, huge windows that let in lots of light, abundant plants and views across the city skyline. I spent a very therapeutic afternoon here once in a thunderstorm during my health hiatus, windows open wide, the sound of rain hammering hard against the windows. No choice but to stay put with my book and order another coffee, heaven!
Thanks for being here, I hope you found something you liked/ discovered something new.
